Ivan Meylemans was born in 1971 in Geel, Belgium. He studied at the “Lemmens Institute" in Leuven and at the Royal Music Conservatory in Gent where he received his diploma in 1994 with high honors.

Ivan is a laureate in several national competitions including the "Tenuto" competition. In 1991 and 1992 he was selected for the World and European Youth Orchestra.
He is principal trombone player of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and he is part of a trombone trio with colleagues with which he regularly teaches masterclasses and gives concerts.

Ivan is a member of the Dutch Fanfare Orchestra, the New Trombone Collective and conducts several hafa-orchestras. As a conductor Ivan has won an international conductor competition “Vakhtang Jordania" 2002, Kharkov, Ukraine. In October 2002 he became a laureate of the "Donatella Flick" conductor competition in London. In the finals he conducted the “Miraculous Mandarin” with the London Symphony Orchestra

He is teacher at the Amsterdam Conservatory where he currently leads a class of 15 trombonists. He has given masterclasses in Europe, Asia and the US. He performed as a soloist at the Festival of Flanders and the International Trombone Association.

He has performed as a soloist with the Royal Marine Band of the Netherlands, the New-Flemish Symphony Orchestra, the BRTN-Philharmonic orchestra (now the 'Flemish Radio Orchestra'), Nieuw Sinfoniëtta Amsterdam, the Netherlands Wind Ensemble, the Limburg Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra with which he performed the trombone concerto from Christopher Rouse 1997 (European première).

Bass trombone player Brandt Attema has been committed to the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra Holland (chief conductor: Edo de Waart) since 1999. Next to this job he’s part of the Netherlands Wind Ensemble and the New Trombone Collective. He performed with most Dutch orchestras like the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and the Residentie Orchestra. He also was a member of the Gustav Mahler Jugend Orchester during a tour with Pierre Boulez (summer 2000). He also performs with ensembles like the Schönberg ensemble, the Stravinsky ensemble and many others.

In September 1999 he won the international bass trombone competition in Guebwiller, France. Since then he’s performing as a soloist in chamber music as well as with orchestra. He was, for example, a soloist on the International Trombone Festival 2000 and he will play a solo piece by Peter Jan Wagemans with the Nieuw Ensemble in January 2004.

Next to his study bass- and contrabass trombone in Rotterdam with Ben van Dijk – bass trombone player with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra – Brandt Attema also followed lessons and master classes with trombonists from orchestras of Berlin, Vienna, Chicago (Charles Vernon and Michael Mulcahy) and Philadelphia, with the Swedish trombone soloist Christian Lindberg, the French soloist Michel Becquet and the Dutch trombonists George Wiegel, Jorgen van Rijen and Bart van Lier.
